Essay : The Relationship Between LO & Knowledge Workers




Abstract

Currently, Indonesia needs entrepreneurs who can drive economic growth forward anymore. To achieve it we need more knowledgeable workers. Relationship between learning organization (LO) and the retention of knowledge workers is very important. LO is organization learning, organization memory and expertise management. In order to attain competitive advantage which includes cost reduction and cost leadership too, companies are implementing LO. Various LO initiatives are taken by the organizations through LO programmes in order to enhance productivity, efficiency and innovation. The LO initiatives can be measured through business performance of the organization and usefulness of its LO initiatives. Organization uses LO as a tool for sustaining and improving their business performance .Thus for any of the LO programme to be successful it must be aligned with the organization vision, goals, mission and with the corporate strategy. If LO fails to add value to the organization, it is only cost intensive, useless, or even counter productive. The purpose of this essay to determine the effect of the relationship  between learning organization elements, job satisfaction facets and turnover intent as they emerge for their knowledge workers.

Introduction

According to Steve Offsey, Director, Knowledge Management Products, Dataware Technologies, Inc.,“Knowledge sharing is becoming the central driver of the 21stcentury”. It is accepted that knowledge, coupled with the potential to transform that knowledge into improved actions, can provide organisations with a competitive advantage (Drucker, 1964, 1998; De Geus, 1997). As such the aim of learning organisation (LO) models is to harness knowledge gained via individual and organisational learning in order to enable transformational rather than incremental change (McGill et al., 1992; Kontoghiorghes et al., 2005).

Based on survey by http://country.eiu.com/ that Indonesia’s score in our business environment rankings improves in 2014‑18, and its global ranking rises from 58th to 56th. However, it remains at 12th position in the regional rankings. Apart from the scores for policy towards foreign investment and foreign trade and exchange controls, which we expect to remain stable in 2014-18. In fact, Indonesia is still dominated by foreign markets. Indonesia requires qualified human resources in terms of both education and better practice with a good management. That can be realiaze from LO.

This is a high proportion given the significance of any organisational transformation. Awareness of knowledge management increased with the size of organisation. All respondents from the largest companies had heard of knowledge management while just under a fifth from other companies had not.” (-www.ukessays.co.uk)

Explanation

As we know that the learning organization (LO) is an organization which provide a chance for the workers to get their education expanded with particular way. Knowledge workers are workers who have the knowledge and ability to use their ideas to solve problems in their company or make services or goods. To carry out the needs of the corporate cog. Suppose knowledgeable workers who are not well placed in the marketing strategy. Marketing could be hampered if the worker does not have a good insight, that's why there's a clear relationship between both.

Knowledge strategy in common addresses the organization's aims to exploit its knowledge resources in order to gain competitive advantage. Two alternative knowledge strategies can be chosen by organizations. These are the explorative strategy which aims at creating new knowledge and the exploitative strategy which aims at reusing existing knowledge.

The exploration strategy is generally more innovation-oriented, while the exploitation strategy aims at efficiency. Focusing solely on exploration can mean that the organization never gains from its investments in exploration of new knowledge, and focusing solely on exploitation may lead to knowledge obsolescence or even to the destruction of the organization. Thus explorative strategies are referred to be the creation of new knowledge while exploitative strategy are referred to be reuse and inter-organizational transfer of existing knowledge.

In this case as we know that the company will go forward if supported by human resources who have a good capability. Through LO, they have a better chance to hone their skills and also to create new ideas of services or goods is more profitable for the company, then the workers are going to apply the knowledge that they get for solving problems.

Knowledge workers will work happily placed in the right according to his ability, . Happiness affect the way they can complete responsibility be better. The company will catch benefit from the goods or services it produces.

When they  have better skills and experience are a good organization. Company benefit both in efficiency and effectiveness in providing services or goods. It is also supported by a quality manager in putting his knowledge workers the right place or position. And than, the LO programme can be successful it must be aligned with the organization vision, goals, mission and with the corporate strategy

It can be concluded that, The relationship between the relationship between organizations learning and the retention of knowledge workers is very important. Both can make a big impact for the company.
